Matter of matrimony

You are expected to be SINGLE, when you can actually fall in love or date. That is during your college days. When you finally become comfortable with the idea of being single, boom! They pressurize you to get married. Then they'll  ask you why didn't you find someone on your own? Duh!🤦 REMEMBER You were the ones who said when we were studying, "concentrate only on studies nothing else. Keep your distance from boys they aren't trustworthy." I mean come on. Now all of a sudden you are asking me to get closer to such a guy whom I have never met in my life and judge his character, whether he is suitable for me to spend the rest of my life with him, in just 2 or 3 meetings. I spent half of my life with you and I don't even know when your views will change. How do u expect me to trust the other guy?? 😁 What I find hilarious is When we were in college you were intolerant of me speaking about a guy, who is my friend ,for many years. You want me to be independent

Holy holi hai!

Holi the festival of colors, is a 6 day festival celebrated in our colourful country in Month of march. It's marks the end of winter(sigh! 😭farewell to thou my lovely winter!) and beginning of the spring(Alas! advent of the wretched sweaty summer😓).  It has mythological significance everyone knows the Prahlada and Holika Dahan story when Lord Vishnu protects his favorite devotee, little prince Prahlada, from the fire. while, his evil aunt Holika burned to ashes. The essence of this festival like many hindu festivals is celebrating victory of good over evil. There is another story about holi in the era of Lord Krishna. Holi was celebrated as the advent of spring season and also potrayed the love between Krishna and his beloved Radha. For many, Holi is indeed a festival of love. Applying Gulal(pink colored powder) to their beloved's cheeks, that's holi for some people. For many it's 'bhang piyenge, holi hai'( Intoxicating drink consumed during holi) see the

AN ODE TO FRIENDSHIP

An ode to friends. An ode to relive the moments, Which had an impact to last, Of days we spent in congress, Which happened to bypass so fast. days of high pitched laughter, days of silent sorrow and tears, Days of clash and subtle argument, days of liveliness and cheer. We are made out of different mud, Still attached like a pea in a pod, Adapting long from roots, Under the refuge of god. Whenever you go down to the memory lane, To remember some good times spent, Let me be a trifle part of your memory, I hope your affection, years from now would be the same….. -Swati Iyer

Matter of matrimony: Chapter 2

HEART'S DILEMMA. The house where I am born, where I spent good 20-30 years of my life, WHERE MY HEART IS, is this really not my home?  There is a saying in India "beti paraya dhan hoti hai." Which literally translates to "A daughter is a outside/Alien(according to google translate) property". Which means she doesn't belong to her parents house. In our childhood and naive days we didn't care for these phrases. We were like "Oh! This is a quote in Hindi language. Yeah I have heard that." Ignorant little bloobs we were.🙈 In the back of our mind we daughters didn't like this phrase. But either we didn't have a mind to put it to words or we were too busy enjoining our childhood, our parents love and affection that we forgot, they were talking about our future. Indeed. Realization strikes when you are officially at 'Right age'(this concept is a scam I tell you) to get married. The late twenties, when you are out of the effects of

Think in English

A famous dialogue by legendary Amitabh Bachchan Sir, from the movie Namak Haram, goes like this "I can talk English, I can walk English." I will add one more thing to it, say this to yourself "I will think English too." Even if I make mistakes, even if I mix some words from my mother tongue when I am thinking. It doesn't matter. People do learn from their mistakes. If you are conscious while talking to others, talk to yourself(I mean think to yourself not loudly or people might think you are crazy. ) You will neither judge yourself nor make fun of yourself. When you start gaining confidence, slowly start conversing with others in English. The most important thing is to use simple words and don't shy away from making mistakes. If people are laughing or making fun of you. It's an issue of their thinking and mentality, not you. "Angrez gaye aur angreji ka dehshat chod gaye!"( The Brits left India leaving behind the terror of the English langua

Introduction to English part 1

If you intend to improve your English speaking and listening skills the best way to do it is by observation. Listening is a very powerful medium. How do you think children learn the language you speak? There you go Eureka! "Dimag ki batti jali?" Therefore, When you are watching the tutorial videos or taking class the best way to learn English is to watch but  concentrate on listening. Watch Hollywood movies, British movies and series/drama. That has a flipside too. Choosing the movies or series can be tricky because the accent differs and bear in mind, like we make a lot of grammatical mistakes while speaking in our mother tongue sometimes, same applies to people in other countries. To maintain authenticity they show few people who frame grammatically incorrect sentences. Only people with basic knowledge of grammar can hear and register these mistakes. So it's advisable to study grammar whilst watching the movies/series. There are few movies where grammar is ought to be
